Vines and Climbers

HoneysuckleAs a group, vines are problematic. We want them to perform very particular functions, and there aren't a lot of great options, especially in the shade, and evergreen, and flowering — and noninvasive. Yesfore want everything.

Now I was hoping to recommend Trumpet vine, also known as Trumpet Creeper (Campis radicans) until I saw the horror stories about it written by real gardeners on DavesGarden. Even though it doesn't fit the legal definition of invasive (meaning, nonnatives that behave a certain way) this plant is clearly waaaay too aggressive for a sustainable garden or in any spot near your home. I've never seen so many negative reviews on Daves Garden! By contrast, check out the rave reviews for native honeysuckle.
