The story of this plant starts with the problems with the Leland Cypress, the screening tree planted by the millions. My Master Gardener class was even shown a 15-minute Pow
erPoint called “What’s wrong with my Leland Cypress?” and the answers weren’t encouraging. The replacement that we heard recommended over and over was ‘Green Giant’ Arborvitae — for its evergreen columnar shape, its fast growth, and its resistance to the myriad problems that afflict Lelands.
You know how when a product’s getting lots of attention it makes you wonder if it’s just hype? Well, hype or no, the ones in my garden are totally living up to it.
