Winter Gardening Garb
A girl’s gotta garden, no matter the season. Seriously, I get pretty cranky if I can’t get my hands in dirt at least once a week. Luckily, my winters are pretty mild — Zone 7 in Maryland — so out I venture to move earth and rock and even some tough plants. My minimum for comfort is 40 degrees, no rain.
Here’s a typical ensemble for winter, straight from my own wardrobe (and sadly, typical of the whole sorry collection).
Head Gear
This ski cap all by itself keeps me nice and toasty. Gets too hot in no time.
On top
It’s all in the layers, as any winter sportsperson will tell us. My favorite first layer is a long-sleeved jersey. Next, some high-tech insulating long jones, and on top, one or two sweatshirts. Let the layering begin.
On Bottom
My favorite combo starts with thin sweatpants, with a pair of thicker sweatpants on top.
