Springtime in my Garden

April 5, 2009 · 9 comments

For a small delivery fee, my town will dump up to 10 cubic yards of partially composted leaves in your driveway.  Now getting it OFF the driveway and into the garden – that’s my fitness regime for the next month.

A few summers ago I dumped 10 yards of mulch on my drive; it took me so long to move it that a guy came to our door and asked if we were looking for someone to take it away!

We can buy it from our local botanic garden (their own mix using city leaves). Two scoops at $40 each fill our midsize pickup truck. We always have to plan the trips and wait in line etc. Love the idea of getting it delivered!

That’s a pretty sweet deal to only have to pay for delivery. I just moved 5 yards of good dirt from the front to the back yard, down a steeply sloping lot that looks kind of like yours. Egad, it was a lot of work. 10 yards? Yep, you have your fitness regime cut out for you.

Holy moly, you’re going to be in top notch shape for Spring Fling! I am more envious than I can say of your leaf mold compost. Dang, I wish we could get something like that going here in Houston, or even just in Katy!

I would be worried about the effects of that heavy truck on your beautiful (expensive) paver block driveway.

Susan: nothin’ like a little fragrant free stuff in your driveway to get you motivated. Wish I had a garden big enough to require that much sweet stuff. It’s good to hear that spring in finally making the rounds.

Swimray – good call on the delivery truck. I’ve seen too many residential driveways messed up – they’re not designed to do the job.

Yum, free mulch that’s composted too. What I wouldn’t give for that!

No partially composted leaves in my town, but they will deliver compost, although it is cheaper of course to go take it away yourselve.
€13 for 1000 kg (2000 pounds) of coarse compost, €23 for the same amount of fine compost (taken away).
(Delivered it costs € 91 for 7000 kg – the minimum amount they deliver – more than 8 cubic yards.)

yeah for mulching with compost…i wish everyone would listen up – it keeps down weeds AND feeds the plants.
