About the Sponsors and Partners of this Site

Sponsors and partners are those folks in the left column โ€” nonprofits I actively support, and businesses I know and enthusiastically recommend. In fact, I was recommending them even before they generously agreed to sponsor Sustainable-Gardening.com.

If you're interested in becoming a sponsor of this website, read this.

AquaBarrel was founded by Barry Chenkin after he'd tried several build-it-yourself kits and decided that he โ€” and everyone else โ€” needed a better product. The result is that Barry is the go-to guy for rain harvesting. His workshops on rain harvesting are big hits (as evidenced by the raves and recommendations posted on email groups across the Mid-Atlantic area. He visits customers' yards to recommend and then install rain harvesting systems, and the customers also email to recommend AquaBarrel.

Behnkes Nursery has been my main plant source for about 30 years. They're known for a huge selection of perennials in particular, and for standing by their plants. This family company was founded in the 1930s and is now run by assorted grandchildren, including Chairman John Peter Thompson, nationally recognized expert on native and invasive plants. Behnkes has two retail locations and a growing facility in Maryland.

GardenRant is an award-winning team blog, the product of four passionate gardeners who are also professional writers: Amy Stewart in California, Elizabeth Licata and Michele Owens in New York, and myself in Maryland. Here's lots more about us.
