Hydrangea paniculata/Tardiva Hydrangea

According to some sources, this is THE most culturally adaptable of all the Hydrangea paniculata 'Tardiva'hydrangeas - the very definition of sustainability! It tolerates anything but wet conditions, which is no problem where I live.

But this plant is a do-er that performs aesthetically, too - with its long panicle-shaped white blooms.  So it's low-maintenance and high-impact, too.  It can also be trained as a standard (tree-form) or allowed to grow naturally.

Native to Japan and China.

I grow Tardivas in the Washington, D.C. area, Zone 7A.  If you've grown it and have comments to include here, send 'em along, and tell me where you garden.

Reader Rebecca Probst wrote: " Absolutely love this hydrangea; it is reliable, gorgeous, carefree...it looks very natural and not at all contrived like so many of the new varieties appear.  I think many of these newer varieties (Limelight, et al) have a "fake"  look.. as stated, too contrived.  I garden in southern PA and work for a large garden center selling perennials."
